Wide-Plank wood floors

There are few more impressive sights than a wide-plank wood floor stretching majestically across the full expanse of a room. The classic, timeless simplicity of the wide plank is aesthetically irresistible; it transcends the particularities of style to provide the perfect visual foil for any interior, whether period or contemporary, traditional or minimalist. And the wider and longer the board, both the more beautiful the grain is and the more distinguished the look achieved.

But beauty has its price. Wide-plank wood floors have historically been synonymous with a major drawback: their instability. The changing of the seasons and modern heating and cooling systems mean that 21st-century floors are constantly subjected to extremes in temperature and humidity. As a result, gaps can appear between planks, or cupping and warping may become visible, or the floor may even detach from the sub-floor. Non-engineered (solid) wide-plank wood floors will invariably deteriorate in these ways, as will poor-quality engineered variants.

That’s why it’s crucial not only to choose a correctly engineered plank when specifying a wide-plank wood floor, but also to have it installed by wide-plank installation experts: Element7 offers both the best-quality products and the most exacting installation service. Uncompromisingly engineered planks are available in widths of up to a phenomenal 350mm and in lengths of up to a stunning 5m.
